How to begin Spelling?

We are a family from Hawaii, we had no idea our son who has autism was in there until we had the surprise of a lifetime after uncovering the gift of spelling to communicate. Our focus now is to create a life full of freedom and hope, and to help others discover that Autism is misunderstood and our non speaking kids with Autism are completely inside. Join us as we find freedom through spelling.

Parent Training and Train your Aid

I-ASC has courses and resources through their network to educate and train parents, siblings, grandparents, support staff, and others as one-on-one CRPs for your child. Having more than one CRP (communication regulation partner) will give families greater support and flexibility in assisting nonspeakers throughout their communication journey.

Free How-To Lessons

Communication 4 All instructional academy has instructional videos, case studies, lessons and resources to teach nonspeakers how to type, free of charge.

Scholarships

Hawaii Autism Foundation offers our Family scholarship which includes 5 lessons with a registered S2C practitioner, spelling boards, and lesson book. Scholarships available based on availability of practitioners

Spellers Freedom Foundation provides scholarships, as funding is available, to assist individuals seeking access to communication through spelling.

I-ASC’s S2C Speller Access Fund provides qualifying individuals with a set of stencil letterboards, two workbooks, and five sessions with a certified S2C Practitioner participating in the Speller Access Fund Program.

Apraxia

Dr. Dana Johnson is an occupational therapist and researcher with advanced training in whole-body apraxia, neuromotor development, and functional medicine.

Her channel teaches how whole-body apraxia affects speech, movement, and regulation. She also teaches what motor planning, sensory regulation, and brain-body connection really mean for autistic children.

We are looking for autism clinicians who already work with people on the spectrum to become an S2C Practitioner.

Feed The Brain

Presuming Competence assumes that everyone has the capacity to learn, think, understand and contribute, even if they can’t easily show it, rather than assuming inability. Some ways to feed the brain include:

  1. Books on Tape

  2. Podcasts

  3. Age Appropriate Youtube University

  4. Acellus Online School (with Scholarships available!)

Even you haven’t started spelling yet, please start feeding the brain!
